Sustainability Appraisal
Promoting and Informing Integrated Sustainable Development
The Regional Strategy will be subject to a comprehensive Sustainability Appraisal (SA) to ensure that it fully integrates social, environmental and economic considerations.
The report is now available,
RS2010 Part 1 Sustainability Appraisal Report
Bridge/Ursus Consultants have been appointed to undertake the Sustainability Appraisal of the new Regional Strategy. Its purpose is to promote sustainable development through the integration of social, environmental and economic considerations into the formation of the new Regional Strategy.
The Northwest is leading the way with such a comprehensive Sustainability Appraisal, since we believe that this is a vital part of truly integrated and long-term strategic development. At every step of the way, the Sustainability Appraisal will be asking key questions, and will be able to inform and assist regional stakeholders in developing options, prioritising actions, and considering evidence.
The Sustainability Appraisal must also fully comply with the requirements of:
- Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) Directive (European Directive 2001/42/EC)
- The Habitats Regulation Assessment (HRA)- Conservation (Natural Habitats, &c) (Amendment) Regulations 2007
and will incorporate:
- Health Impact Assessment
- Equality and Diversity Impact Assessment
- Sub-regional assessments as appropriate, e.g. rural proofing
