Principles and Issues

Principles and Issues

On 3rd February 2009, 4NW and NWDA launched the public consultation on the Principles and Issues paper which ran from February to April 2009 .

The Principles and Issues Paper was designed to stimulate a discussion on how the Northwest can integrate  the traditionally-separate agendas of spatial planning and economic development, the environment, and sustainable communities and social cohesion.

This Paper was not intended to offer solutions, or potential policy or investment recommendations, or a plan for each place in the region. Its purpose was to set out in a clear and direct way those issues (both positive and negative) which we expect the region will want to consider and prioritise before it moves on to detail of strategy development. It is not an exhaustive picture of the region, but a summary of its' main issues, both positive and negative.

Following the consultation, a report containing an assessment and summary of responses to the Northwest  Regional Strategy Principles and Issues Paper consultation exercise has been produced and is available below.  We would like to thank all those involved in the vibrant debate around the region on the challenges and opportunities we face collectively.
