The Regional Strategy is being developed in four broad stages. Work has been undertaken throughout 2008/9 to develop the evidence base for the Principles and Issues Paper, released in February 2009, as well as the ongoing strategy development.
The Principles and Issues Paper set out the challenges and opportunities facing the region and was subject to an open consultation from February to April 2009. The aim was to stimulate an open discussion across the region to help identify the future priorities for the Northwest. A report summarising the response to the consultation is available here.
Taking account of the responses to the Principles and Issues consultation, and other ongoing work, Part 1 (the high level strategic framework) of the Regional Strategy was published on 4th January 2010 and was open for consultation throughout January/ February 2010. A revised Part 1, together with Part 2 (the detailed policies), will now be prepared for the statutory consultation process in Summer 2010.
The exact timings are subject to change in the light of the adoption of new national legislation which will enable this strategy development work to provide the basis for the formal Single Integrated Strategy for the region.
Throughout this time further evidence will be gathered to shape and support the strategy.
