About The Regional Strategy
The Regional Strategy will be a new and clear strategic investment framework for the region.
The Strategy builds on the learning gained in the process of developing the Regional Economic Stategy 2006, the Regional Spatial Strategy and Partial Review and the Regional Housing Strategy.
It also builds on the Government’s Sub National Review of Economic Development which will give RDAs and Local Authorities Leaders Fora (previously known as Regional Assemblies) the capability to develop a new integrated Regional Strategy. These arrangements will be formalised in a new Government Bill. In the Northwest significant progress on governance has already been made with the creation in July 2008 of the Regional Leaders Forum - 4NW.
The region has agreed that we should move quickly to produce a Northwest Regional Strategy which will:
- Refresh and revise economic development actions and priorities building on the Regional Economic Strategy 2006-09
- Focus on setting out a vision and key principles on strategic issues
- Integrate spatial and housing priorities with actions to achieve sustainable economic growth
- Prepare the region to work swiftly and effectively on a statutory Single Regional Strategy after any necessary legislative changes
- Build upon work undertaken to date on the Partial Review of Regional Spatial Strategy
